The rise of Wonder Woman

Battle of the superheroes: Wonder Woman, Batman and Superman

Warner Bros. Pictures

After a few rather disappointing series (Man of Steel and Suicide Squad) in the past few years, the latest DC film to hit the theatre, Wonder Woman was a resounding commercial success for Warner Bros and DC Entertainment. With a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, 8.1 rating on IMDb and an A on Cinemascore, the film has become one of the most critically-acclaimed of the DC Comics Universe. It’s astounding record performance has successfully challenged Hollywood standards and proved the potential of a female director and protagonist.

Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot) made her first appearance in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) in the iconic scene above and audiences were elated as the DC’s Trinity was finally seen together in live action. Wonder Woman’s powerful appearance in the fight had the whole world anticipating her solo film ever since and Gadot’s charismatic portrayal of the female superhero in the 2017 film did not disappoint.

In the film, Gal Gadot plays Diana Prince, an Amazonian princess, who yearns to be a hero and left the Themyscira paradise to fight for mankind’s freedom. Her faith in mankind was tested but her resolve stood strong till the end. The film had a perfect balance of romance (Gal Gadot and Chris Pine!) as well as some really badass fighting scenes that had every audience glued to the screen for a good whole 140 minutes.

Gal Gadot was a former Israeli army combat trainer and Miss Israel pageant winner who had a simply stunning performance in the film that is both sophisticated and fierce. Gal Gadot did not have it easy for her role as she had to put on 14 pounds of muscle mass in order to don the armour of Wonder Woman. Not only did she have to ensure a strict diet, she had to undergo intensive workouts, boxing and a variety of martial arts trainings.

Warner Bros. Pictures

With 7.2 million followers, Wonder Woman Gal Gadot is easily the first among the three superheroes. She also receives the highest average number of likes at 600 thousands and the highest interaction rate of 9.49%.

In addition to being the world’s favourite female superhero on screen, Gadot is equally impressive in real life. Now a mother of two, it was revealed that Gadot was actually 5 months pregnant when she was required for extra reshoots. At the pregnancy stage where most woman might be struggling with several symptoms, Gadot was out on set, battling numerous harsh conditions and action scenes. Now that’s a real life Wonder Woman!

Surprisingly and unlike the other two, her top post in the past 3 months has nothing to do with her character as Wonder Woman. It was a simple shot taken by her husband Jaron Varsano, captioned with her daily life as a mother of two and how the smallest things in life are those that made one the happiest. I guess everyone agrees that moms are the true Wonder Woman in life.
