This year is a huge one for Disney.
7 months remain on the calendar for 2019, but Disney isn’t slowing down with their movie releases any time soon. One of the most talked-about releases of the year includes the live-action remake of the all-time classic – The Lion King.
The movie, which is slated to be released in July 2019, has generated much hype with its star-studded cast featuring the likes of Beyoncé, ‘The Queen of Pop’ herself, Childish Gambino, and the original voice actor of Mufasa in the 1994 animated film, James Earl Jones.
And if you think that the star-studded cast is all there is to this film, think again.
On June 1, Sir John and Luminess Cosmetics officially announced that they created a Lion King-inspired cosmetics collection – The Lion King Cosmetics Collection – set to launch on June 15!
Yes, you read right. A cosmetics collection centred around the hues of Africa’s endless plains.
The internet went wild (pun very intended 😆).
Before this limited edition collection drops in a few days, I want to break down for you the FOUR reasons why this majestic collection is going to be a hit.
1) Sir John is the makeup artist behind this collection
In case you were wondering why everyone is going crazy about this collaboration, Sir John IS the reason. He is none other than Beyonce’s go-to makeup artist – the mastermind behind her gorgeous look at the recent Wearable Art Gala in Los Angeles, amongst many others.
Apart from Queen Bey, this talented, highly-sought after celebrity makeup artist has worked with other top stars like Celine Dion and Karlie Kloss.
2) Disney collaborations have typically been well-received
Do you remember Colourpop’s Disney Designer Collection?
Yes this one 😍
It was sold out soon after its launch (because everyone wants to look like a Disney princess 💃🏻) but Colourpop had fans covered. The collection was restocked in less than 2 months.
LORAC’s Beauty and the Beast Collection also sold out super quickly after its launch.

3) The collection and colours are named after themes and characters in The Lion King
One of the items in the collection is the Can’t Wait to Be Queen Eyeshadow Palette.
There is everything to love about this palette – from the shades to the finish to the name of the shades.
In fact, the shades are named after prominent characters in the film such as Mufasa, Simba and Nala, as well as the iconic Pride Rock where this scene took place.
And then, we have the CIRCLE OF LIFE Highlighter.
Honestly, what is there not to love about this collection?
4) Statistics from Popular Chips tells me so
Lastly, if you are looking for some solid evidence of why I think this collection is going to be a hit, I’ve got you covered.
Being at the helm of this collaboration, Sir John is taking the promotions seriously. He has uploaded a series of videos and images teasing the launch of this collection on his Instagram @sirjohnofficial.
Out of these posts, three videos about the cosmetics line emerged within his top 10 videos.
Two of the above three videos have also garnered at least 2k more views as compared to his average video views.
The hashtags #luminesscosmetics and #sirjohn tagged in the photos about the collaboration are also trending even after two weeks since the official news.
For Luminess Cosmetics, images featuring the collection have garnered twice or even thrice the account’s average number of likes and comments.
This was the first image of the collection, released June 3.
It saw 3.3k likes and close to 100 comments.
And on June 5, another image was posted.
This time, there were over 200 comments.
Just yesterday, this image was uploaded.
In less than 24 hours, it had already earned itself more than 1.2k likes, exceeding the account’s average.
Though it’s going to be some time till The Lion King movie hits the theatres, this regal collection will definitely keep us busy for the time being, trying to recreate gorgeous looks like the one below.
