New Instagram Update: The Guide/Blog Feature is Now Here

Instagram has been on an update roll. They have released a bunch of new features that change the way we use the app, as well as how we relate to the hoards of content available online. The most recent update that was announced slightly over a week ago is called Guides, which is “a way to more easily discover recommendations, tips and other content from your favorite creators, public figures, organizations and publishers on Instagram.”

For now, this update is particularly focused on individual and community wellbeing during this global pandemic.

Most of the guides are centered around maintaining wellness during the COVID-19 pandemic, and current participating creators include @afspnational, @heads_together, @vitaalere, @klicksafe, @headspace_aus, @deepikapadukone, @sudahdong and @eenfance.

Here’s how to access a guide:

Step 1: Click on the book-like icon on a creator’s page

Step 2: Scroll through all available guidebooks by topic. In this case the creator has put up guides titles ‘Have A Real Convo About Mental Health’ and ‘Mental Health & COVID-19’

Step 3: Start Reading! When viewing a Guide, you will be able to see posts + videos that the creator has curated, and this is often accompanied by tips, advice, and reliable information. If you tap on each post you will be redirected to the original post that you can then share on your IG Story or via Direct.

By enabling organisations and individuals to create guides, Instagram is empowering communities to help themselves and others in this difficult time. For now you have to follow a creator in order to stay updated about their Guides, but this function will soon be rolled out onto the Explore Page.

Stay home, but also remember to stay happy 😊
