How to Level Up your Instagram Stories Game – Top 5+1 Tricks You Need To Know

We post on Instagram stories all the time – whether we’re just a regular user, a brand, or an influencer. But want to know some secrets to make your stories pop

I’ve got you covered.

In this article, I’ve put together a list of my Top 5+1 favourite Instagram story tricks that you need to know (if you don’t yet already know them)!

1. Multiple Pictures In One Story

Want to create an Instagram story that looks like an old-school scrapbook? With this trick, now you can.

Step 1: Choose the image for your background.

Step 2: Go to your gallery and copy the image that you want to add.

Step 3: Go back to Instagram and click on the Text function.

Step 4: Press and hold until the Paste button appears and paste the copied image!

There you go! You can do this for multiple images to create that old-school scrapbook look.

2. The Hidden Colour Palette & Gradient Text

Did you know that Instagram allows you to use more colours for your text and background than they actually let on?

In fact, they have a hidden colour palette that you can play around with.

Here’s how:

Step 1: Simply press and hold on any of the coloured bubbles at the bottom of the screen below.

Step 2: Once you do that for a couple of seconds, the colour palette will appear at the bottom of your screen and you now have an array of colours to choose from!

Now that you know and have mastered this simple trick, here comes an even sweeter trick. You can now make gradient texts, all from Instagram story itself!

2b Gradient Texts

Step 1: Type your text.

Step 2: Select the portion of the text that you wish to make colourful.

Step 3: Press and hold on the colour bubble to open the colour palette.

Step 4: Slowly slide both the dropper on the colour palette and the select tool on your text at the same time to create that gradient effect. (This sounds complicated but really isn’t!)

And this is how your text will look like!

3. Transparent Colour Filter Over Photo Or Video

Instagram has lots of filters for us to play around with, and for those of us who use external image-editing applications, there are even more filters available to us. But Instagram has one special filter – the transparent colour filter – that essentially looks like the one below.

Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: Click on the Highlighter tool at the top of your screen.

Step 2: You can either choose a colour from the bubbles at the bottom of your screen or from the colour palette.

Step 3: Once you have selected the colour that you want, simply press and hold on the background image and you will get your transparent colour filter!

4. Eraser Tricks

This Eraser Trick follows on from the previous one!

Step 1: After you have created the transparent colour filter, click on the Eraser tool at the top of the screen.

Step 2: Just use the eraser and erase the colour filter from any part of the image that you want!

5. Pop Up Posts

This is a super simple trick to feature a post in your Instagram story while having that cool, blurred background.

Step 1: Go to your profile page or someone else’s.

Step 2: Press and hold on the post that you want to feature.

Step 3: Take a screenshot!

5+1. Gif Story Slideshow

To pull together this list of super cool and easy Instagram story tricks, this last one shows you how to create a story that looks like a gif slideshow so you can show your followers all these cool tricks together!

Step 1: Create your first image.

Step 2: Save the image.

Step 3: Repeat Step 1 and 2 for as many “slides” that you want to have. (Note: You should do this in succession.)

Step 4: When you have completed this, your gallery will look something like this.

Step 5: Post the images in order and you will get a cool slideshow like this as your followers click through your story!
