Describe your Instagram profile, what you post and why.

I started with posting photo’s of my daughters braided hair, then started to post my own hair as well. These days I still post braids and hairstyles of our own, but also fashion (kids and womans), beauty related items, jewelry, other peoples hairstyles, etc.

When did you start your Instagram experience?

I started my Instagram account on August 30 2013.

Did you start with the purpose to make it a job or did it start as a passion that then became a job?

It all started as a passion, sharing my braids with the world. Little did I know it would become so much more…

How long did it take to you to make your first 10,000 followers? Was it a difficult process?

I reached 10.000 followers almost a year after i started my account, and after that it went up very fast. I even reached 15K before my one year anniversary. These days things are growing much slower thanks to the recent changes on Instagram, people have more trouble finding their way to my account.

What camera/phone do you use to take your pictures?

I use a Canon 70D SLR for taking my photo’s as well as filming my tutorials. I would definitely recommend this camera. I also occasionally use my iPhone 6, which takes good photos as well.

Do you use filters on a regular basis?

I don’t use the Instagram filters. I download my photos to my phone using the WiFi on the camera, and then edit them in the Photoshop app. Or I edit them with PSP on my laptop.

Do you cultivate your Social Media presence in other Networks?

Yes I also use Facebook and Youtube, as well as my own website

What is the post that you published that you like the most or that you are most proud of?

I don’t think I have one particular post I am most proud of, there has been a number of big accounts who have reposted my work, this is definitely something to be proud of. But also the brands I have been working with, and the people that are following me..

Have you ever collaborated with other influencers?

Yes, by sharing each others’ accounts/work, twinning (aka doing the same hairstyle on the same day), contests, etc.

What kind of people do you follow on Instagram?

I mostly follow other hair accounts, influencers and brands i work with or am interested in.
I’m also part of a fantastic group of #braidingmommies; I have personal contact with them, as well as Instagram professional relationship.
I think I do spend 2h a day on Instagram.

Have you ever worked with international brands that published a sponsored post in your Instagram feed?

Brands send me products to promote in my posts. This works great for me, because I can integrate them in my own work, and therefore can show my followers how to use them, which they appreciate. I haven’t done payed posts yet, but I am certainly open for this.

Have you ever bought followers or likes?

No, I haven’t. I am not sure why I should, since those are mainly fake accounts which will be deleted anytime soon anyway. And anyway I don’t trust those websites 🙂

What would you suggest to someone who want to be an Instagram Influencer?

I think the most important thing you can do, is to be yourself and do and share what you love. Don’t let people turn you down, and have faith in yourself. Use hashtags that are common, comment and like on other people’s photo’s, and more people will find the way to your account.

A personal comment from Tamara

My Instagram and Facebook are smaller glimpses in my life and I share more photo’s in the blogs on my website. I am always open for collaborations. Hope to meet you on my social media!
