Today we have a foody interview with US-based Instagram influencer Spencer Kostrinsky, manager of the famous Instagram page @foodprnshare. Please find some quick stats and his full interview just below.
Describe your Instagram profile, what you post and why.
When did you start your Instagram experience?
I started a food blog called Food Uncovered where I would promote local restaurants in downtown Binghamton (Go Bearcats!). Once it became clear that no one was reading my blog, I turned to social media for some help. That’s how I found Instagram and a lot of people that loved sharing their food experiences. That’s how @foodprnshare was started.
Did you start with the purpose to make it into a job or did it start as a passion that then became a job?
Studying accounting at school was great, but I was trying to find an outlet for my passion for food. And hopefully, a way to turn it into a career so it kind of started as both. If you want to be excited about your job, try and incorporate something you do on the weekends.
How long did it take you to make your first 10,000 followers?
The first 10,000 followers was the longest and hardest 10,000. It took almost a year of consistently posting 3-4 times a day, a whole lot of patience and sourcing the highest quality content in order to grow a little bit every day. Slowly those numbers build and begin to snowball.
What camera/phone do you use to take your pictures?
To be honest, I’m not a great photographer. @foodprnshare is a page where I showcase other people’s amazing photos that they send to me by email, hashtag (#foodpornshare) or by tagging me in photos. I also have @foodprnvideos now that features the best food videos people are filming.
Do you use filters on a regular basis?
Natural light is always better.
Have you ever collaborated with other influencers?
Yes! Collaborating is the key to growth and developing relationships. It’s as easy as sending a DM.
What kind of people do you follow on Instagram?
Is there an Instagram Influencer/celebrity in particular that you appreciate and would like to mention?
How often do you publish sponsored posts commissioned by brands? How do you think your audience reacts to sponsored posts?
I try and work with brands on a weekly basis. No matter how small your account is, reach out to local businesses, big brands or anyone in between. You’ll learn a lot by doing sponsored posts.
No one likes advertisements. But businesses want to put their brand and products in the palms of your followers.
Do you mainly work directly with brands or through agencies? If you have both experiences which work collaboration do you prefer?
I’ve done both and a lot of can depend on the client. Try and establish a good relationship and everything will be easier. Always focus on relationships!
Have you ever used an Instagram Analytics?
No. I track my follower growth on a daily basis. It’s a great technique to see how you’re doing.
Have you ever bought followers or likes?
Nope. Definitely don’t do this if you’re thinking about it.
What would you suggest to someone who wants to be an Instagram Influencer?
Step 1. Find something you like.
Step 2. Find something other people like.
Step 3. Try and combine the two.
What do you think about the recent changes to the Instagram feed and the relevance that Videos are assuming?
Don’t hate change. Embrace it.
Anything else you would like to share with our audience?
@foodprnvideos is my new account for video content! Video content is being shared more and more on Instagram so I started this account in hopes of making a place on Instagram for the best food videos. If anyone has foodporny video content, please send to email@example.com.
