12 Wacky Days That Actually Exist

Because Why Not

Who doesn’t love holidays? You get to relax, spend time with friends and family and maybe even have two naps instead of one!

Here at Popular Chips, we really do believe that holidays are an important aspect of life. Important enough for us to curate a list of 12 wacky holidays across the globe (1 for each month) that you probably didn’t even know existed. These holidays aren’t your typical Christmas or Halloween celebrations but more of quirky instances that got recorded as part of our history. Without further ado, grab a drink and enjoy the list!

1. National Compliment Day (Jan 24)

On this day every year, everyone is encouraged to give compliments to those around them.
What’s not to love about this day? This is the best time for you to dish out those heartfelt statements. (Not to mention the decreased chances of being labelled as a creep for springing a “Hey i think you’re really pretty” on someone.)

Of course, the point of this holiday lies in the sincerity of the compliment so don’t do it like Regina George (portrayed by the talented Rachel McAdams).

2. Random Acts of Kindness Day (Feb 17)

On this special day, you get the opportunity to do something (anything) kind for anyone and everyone you meet! In a world where selfish behavior seems to be on the rise, no stranger will be spared from your random acts of kindness. Stun everyone and watch their jaws drop as you randomly pay for a stranger’s coffee, feed a stray animal or even help an old lady cross the road (gasp).

Jokes aside, this is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to just do the simplest things to brighten up someone else’s day! As the great Selena Gomez once said

3. National Crayon Day (Mar 31)

It is on this day every single year where fans of these magical art supplies (myself included) take some time to recreate their masterpieces from when they were 5 years old. I remember picking up my first crayola, drawing spectacular storm clouds on the canvas and having my mom shout “What have you done to the wall?!”

The next time this day comes around, my art pieces would be improved and no longer limited to stick figures. Also, they won’t be on a wall.

4. National Pet Day (Apr 11)

Now before I get slaughtered by pet lovers out there I’d like to make a disclaimer: You should be treating your beloved pets with the respect and love they deserve all-year round. This is just a special day where you get to do something extra special!

This is that day where you get to justify all your pet related expenses. Nobody can judge you if you decide that your cat needs a caviar infused pet treat. Now’s the time for you to get that Gucci dog collar and Ralph Lauren trench coat befitting of your dog, “Lord Waggleton”.

Do what’s best for your pet. This also means that spending the day cuddled up at home with your homely bunny rabbit is perfect option as well.

5. National Hamburger Day (May 28)

Of course, this list would not be complete without a day commemorating one of my favorite foods. This day is pretty self explanatory and here’s one of my favorite burgers from one of my favorite places.

We’re gonna need a bigger mouth.

I can’t help that I’m obsessed with the Filet-O-Fish from McDonalds. Best. Comfort. Food.

6. National Pink Day (Jun 23)

This day was made for fans of the color pink. On this day, everything pink is in fashion. Wear your pink prints loud and proud (I’m looking at you Nicki).

Better yet, redesign your entire wardrobe! Take a look at the Pink Lady Of Hollywood for more inspiration. KittenKaySera has gained a following over the years for her obsession with the color pink and rightfully so.

Her entire Instagram feed is artfully and meticulously curated with nothing but pink-themed photographs.

She looks so happy all the time in her different shades of pink and probably has this day marked out on her calendar years ago. Even though National Pink Day doesn’t fall on a Wednesday this year, every one of us at Popular Chips is extremely inclusive and you are all invited to sit with us.

7. National Fried Chicken Day (Jul 6)

If it wasn’t already clear enough, I’m quite a glutton. This is why July 6 holds a very special place in my heart. This day is celebrated primarily in America, but who’s to say we can’t celebrate it everywhere else!

I may be over-using the term “comfort food”, but this certainly fits the bill.

I know… my choices of comfort food aren’t the best, but

8. National Dog Day (Aug 26)

It is a little known fact, but National Dog Day is also known as the best day of my life. As an animal lover, I feel a connection to almost every pet. I’m cool with reptiles, amphibians and fish! Dogs, however, are something else.

Dogs have been a part of human life since ancient times and were one of the first animals to be domesticated by humans.

Since then, they’ve helped humans out in so many ways. Apart from being incredible, loyal pets, some of them are also professional service dogs who help out many different people.

For more pictures of dogs, just do a quick search on Instagram. One of my favorite pages has an assortment of different Corgis!

9. Hobbit Day (Sep 22)

Fans of the Lord of The Rings series will be well aware of this one. Hobbit day is the birthday of the two protagonists, Frodo and Bilbo Baggins from J.R.R Tolkien’s famous books.

You may wish to just sit back and enjoy a movie marathon re-run of all the movies that have aired so far!

Happy #HobbitDay! What are you doing to celebrate?

10. International Moment of Frustration Scream Day (Oct 12)

Yes, this is a thing. At 1200 Greenwich time, people gather together and let their vocal chords loose for 30 seconds to release the frustration that would otherwise have gone to their fists. I definitely appreciate this more than whatever The Purge has to offer though, don’t you?

11. World Toilet Day (Nov 19)

This day was set to commemorate the beauty that is the latrine. No, it’s not a day where you worship a toilet. In fact, this day has a very noble purpose – to remind us of the importance and luxury of having proper sanitation.

We often take for granted what we have in life. Living in a highly advanced world, it is common for us to expect that certain things “are there”.

Unfortunately, for a lot of less developed countries, proper sanitation is a luxury. The United Nations declared this an official observance day in hopes that we can tackle the sanitation crisis in those countries together.

Let’s all appreciate the fact that most of us have proper working toilets shall we?

12. Make Up Your Mind Day (Dec 31)

If you didn’t think there would be such an occasion, think again. This one’s for all the people out there who can’t decide on what to eat for lunch.

On this day, people are told to be more firm in their thought processes and decide on things. Want to get that dress? Today’s the day! Want to get that new laptop? Get to the shop now!

Being the last day of the year, this day was set to remind everyone that time is of essence and that choices do have to be made.

This day was set to remind us of a very famous saying: “Better an oops, than a what if”.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this list of wacky days that actually exist!.
